Wayne Mizinga Haloba alias Mizi Wayne is a Southern Province’s Mazabuka based artist. He hails from a family of six. Mizi did his Junior and Senior level of education at St Edmunds Secondary School in Mazabuka and studied electronics at Libes in Livingstone.
He has loved music since childhood and would always vibe to songs of Fat Joe, Wycliffe Jeans, Eve, Puff Daddy, R Kelly, Mary J Blige, Jay lo, Monica, Mainza Chipenzi and Faith Evans, 2pac,and Daddy Zemus(MTSRIP) and many more. He could not hide the fact that he also loved Rhumba music by Zaiko Langa Langa, Madilu System to mention but a few, something many of his age group would not disclose as rhumba is perceived to be for madalas Mizi aka Mr. Lyrical got his interest in music through creative writing. He would write a lot of love letters, short stories and poems at high school. His dream was to become one of Zambia’s successful authors.
“My first written but unpublished novel was Breach Of Promise” Mizi told bafana Media. He managed to put it in a song version on a Fantesia “When I see you” beat but did not release the track due to school commitments. Moreover it was on a “stolen” beat.
Many artists have passed through the hands of a church choir, Mizi is not one of them, however, he has great love for God and a big heart for the poor. He discovered he could not just write stories but also music after the first love of his life left for another. He could pen down his love moments in an artistic way, often times read them out loud in form of rap. He could beat- box, and try to rap at the same time. Just like any other rap newbie, Wayne rapped on any hip- hop instrumental he came across until one day when he decided to visit Sheka, one of the renowned gospel music producers the country has and recorded a song he called “MBK”, the abbreviation for Mazabuka. In the song, he is heard warning all the rappers that he coming all the way from Mazabuka to take over the kingship of the rap game in the country.
“Ba claima nibapondo bakawalala bakopa” so goes one of the interesting lines in the song. One would be made to think he was shooting at Macky 2 in a subliminal way as this song was done during the time the Kopala heavy weight and rap king, Marky 2 was allegedly involved in the copper theft scandal in 2011. Well this is up to the public to conclude as Mizi didn’t not confirm if that’s what he meant in the song. You can find the song on www.bafanamedia.com dubbed as “MBK”.
Mizi got into the Zambian Rap Music industry in 2008 but took it as serious business in 2015. He has worked with quite a number of artists including his look-alike, P Jay, (MHSRIP). Others include Stevo nili pamutunda, Drifta Trek and Willz Mr Nyopole. The producers he has worked with include Silent Razor, Skillz, DJ Mzengaman, Mr Starsh, Jerry D and many more.
Asked to mention something interesting about himself, Mizi had this to say; “Anything interesting about me is that I don’t smoke and I don’t drink”. Our conclusion was that, looks can indeed be deceiving.
He has been in the game for quite some Am looking forward to working with both established and upcoming artists. Bafana Media sense a star in the making when they look at Mizi’s music efforts. A hard working humble son of Mazabuka.
